Noguchi Museum During Recovery PhaseMembership in Alliance for Response NYC is currently free.  It includes but is not limited to New York City and the greater metro/tri-state area collecting institutions, cultural centers, galleries, performing arts organizations, collectors, conservators, artists, and any interested private individuals, recognizing that preparedness and response are strengthened by the exchange of information. Members represent all five boroughs, New Jersey, and Connecticut, many types of public and private organizations (museums, historic sites, historic houses, libraries/archives, botanical gardens/zoos, performing arts, artist studios, fine art storage facilities, insurance companies, private conservators, city agencies, etc.), and a wide range of expertise.  Alliance for Response works together with their membership to strengthen mitigation and response capabilities of the NYC art community through training opportunities, fostering of local planning efforts, and improved dialogue and partnerships.

For a decade AFR NYC has been connecting cultural organizations and individuals with information and tools for emergency preparedness.  During emergency response and recovery, AFR serves as a conduit for information from the New York City Office of Emergency Management and helps those affected to find assistance.  AFR NYC members benefit directly from this exchange of accurate, timely information.

Over the course of the next year, AFR will be training a Heritage Response Team that will be ready and able to assist the cultural community when disaster strikes. We are building technological infrastructure that will make our team of experts accessible through email, social media, texting, and a disaster hotline. They will also be prepared to make on-site visits when deemed critical for making effective response recommendations.  Only AFR NYC members will be able to fully utilize all of these tools in the event of disaster.

Joining AFR now or activating your current membership and returning in a few months to complete your member profile, will allow us to provide customized advice when a disaster hits your collection, gallery, or studio. The first step in your disaster plan should be to take the time to create your member profile today.
